What is Family Independence Support?
The Family Independence Support Project is a sustainable support program that helps families who are struggling to make a living in poverty and poor conditions to become economically and socially independent.
WHY – Why We Support Independence
When a family becomes economically independent, their children can attend school instead of work and pursue their dreams to their heart's content. They can also break the vicious cycle of poverty and disease and create a healthy and hopeful future for their entire family.
WHO – Who is eligible for support?
Families facing the following difficulties can receive support for self-reliance:
Families unable to work due to physical disabilities or poor environments
Families that are unable to escape poverty even after working hard
Families that are socially isolated due to racial, religious, or cultural discrimination
Families where young children are responsible for the livelihood of the family due to the absence of their parents
WHAT – What kind of support do you provide?
We visit village communities in poverty-stricken areas to identify families that need the most help and provide a customized self-reliance system that is tailored to the local situation. Typical support methods include livestock support, vocational training, and life skills training, and are determined specifically according to the situation and needs of each household.
HOW – How do you help them become self-reliant?
The self-reliance system is determined through close consultation with local residents, taking into full consideration the geographical and social conditions of the region. This helps each household to maintain their jobs and generate income, and creates a stable and sustainable self-reliance environment in the long term.
AND – Sharing leads to another round of sharing.
After a family has succeeded in becoming self-reliant, it returns some of the support it received to other struggling families, creating a virtuous cycle of sharing. This spreads the joy of self-reliance and the value of sharing, and promotes positive change in the community.
